Oil paint and cold wax medium (CWM) are combined to thicken the paint without affecting its intensity. CWM also works to extend the paint and reduces some of the shine of the oil paint, giving it a more matte finish. It also enhances drying time and allows the paint to be worked with tools and textures. CWM contains beeswax and a small amount of solvent.

About Betsy Lewis
I always ask, What if? What If I put a mark there or swipe paint there, or use this color, what happens? Every single time I use oil and cold wax I get to answer, What if? It is freedom. It is joy. It is serendipity.
Growing up in Palmyra, NY, I was surrounded by a family of artists and art. While my career took a different direction, I never lost interest in art and artists. Once retired I decided it was time to learn to paint. Oil and cold wax became my preferred medium.
