Having spent my summers on the water, the water element often plays a part in my paintings. Summer Sail is no exception. I loved to sail as a child and I often saw races skipping around lakes and bays, often with colorful spinnakers flying and with sunlight dappling the water. This painting suggests the wind and the speed at which the sailboats cut through the water, the bow splashing into the waves, spraying the crew and all the excitement of a close race.
BIO Betsy Lewis has exhibited in the greater Finger Lakes area of New York State and in global online juried shows. Oil and cold wax is her favorite medium. Her work was juried into the Oil and Cold Wax International: A Juried Exhibition in 2024. Her photography has also been exhibited in the Image City Photography Gallery in Rochester, New York. Her works can be found in collectors’ homes around the United States, South Korea and Sweden. She has won numerous ribbons and awards for her work, which includes photography as well as painting.
